One rainy afternoon, a tiny, shivering bundle was brought into our vet clinic. She was a sweet little ringtail possum, soaked from the storm and all alone. Her name was Tallula.

With her big curious eyes and damp fur, she looked up at us, unsure but trusting. We gently wrapped her in a warm towel, offered her a few juicy berries and some special possum milk. She nibbled gratefully, her tiny paws clutching each berry like a treasure.

Once she’d had a good meal and a warm cuddle, one of our kind-hearted nurses took Tallula home for the night. She snuggled into a soft blanket for a cozy sleep, safe and dry at last.

The next day, Tallula went on a car ride, curled up in a warm box, to meet the wildlife carer who would look after her. There, she would have space to grow stronger and be cared for until she was strong enough to be released into the wild.

We’ll always remember her tiny nose twitching in the towel, and her brave little spirit. One day, when she’s big enough, Tallula will be released back into the trees where she was found—home at last.

Many injured and orphaned native wildlife are brought into our clinic by our caring community daily.  We would like to acknowledge the incredible support of the team at Wildlife Victoria. Their tireless work connecting injured and orphaned wildlife with carers makes stories like Tallula’s possible.
